SAP EWM – Extended Warehouse Management
As a Warehouse Management System (WMS) SAP EWM turns warehouse administration into a powerful key element of modern Supply Chain Management.
As a Warehouse Management System (WMS) SAP EWM turns warehouse administration into a powerful key element of modern Supply Chain Management.
The key feature of SAP EWM is its unparalleled ERP integration, extending even to SAP S/4HANA Embedded EWM. The comprehensive yet flexible range of functions and the options for seamless technology integration cover both traditional warehouse management processes as well as process automation and the use of assistive technologies.
No matter where you currently stand on the topic of warehousing with SAP solutions, we support you with our comprehensive expertise and the close cooperation of our consulting, support, and development units. Let us guide you towards a holistic Warehouse Management System. We cover all services – from deployment analyses, workshops, and training all the way to support for your regular operations.
We combine standard processes and process configurations through customization. These processes are tailored and thoroughly tested to meet the operational and ergonomic requirements of warehouse and transportation logistics. If needed, customers can configure additional modular close-to-standard solution components.
This modular solution spectrum for SAP S/4HANA is named prismat/RAKETE for S/4HANA. It is available at any time as a cloud system for knowledge transfer and prototyping. Process discussions, testing, and training can be conducted even before the start of your implementation project.
Avoid recurring errors through documented processes and coordinated methodologies, thereby ensuring optimal project schedules.
Standards facilitate collaboration, but they may not cover all requirements. Therefore, with the prismat/RAKETE we have emphasized standard alignment while also being able to create individual solutions through an expandable and flexible process design.
Easily shorten the project duration. Thanks to our ready-to-use modular solution components, you can also save costs and time in development efforts.
Minimize risks by getting to know the validated SAP solutions in the cloud and evaluating them in terms of your project goals before the project even starts.
A crucial factor in change management: Give your employees the opportunity to work independently and efficiently through early and sustainable enablement.
Keep everything under control and create integrated processes in the best possible way through comprehensive SAP integration.
SAP EWM can be utilized as a decentralized on-premise system (i.e. standalone) or as a cloud system.
In addition, there is an integrated solution for SAP S/4HANA: The SAP S/4HANA Embedded EWM is available either via on-premise S/4HANA system or for SAP S/4HANA Cloud (as a public edition, private edition, or even as a hybrid version combining public and private).
The suitable deployment method depends on the company’s processes, the setup of the supply chain (and/or supply chain network), as well as the IT infrastructure and its strategic orientation. We would be happy to advise you.
For the S/4HANA migration, it is necessary to define the suitable deployment option for the target system (see above), which processes should remain unchanged after the migration, and what new functions or process configurations need to be newly implemented. A system migration almost always involves a switch to a new release and often an old system is completely replaced. This may also include rollbacks or consolidations of decentralized systems.
When choosing the »Brownfield« approach, i.e. migrating an existing SAP EWM including the processes, customized developments in particular must be analyzed separately. It is recommended to carry out an updated fit-gap analysis based on the current SAP standard when rejuvenating the system.
Another option is the »Greenfield« approach, in which a company reimplements SAP EWM on SAP S/4HANA and redesigns existing processes. This approach offers the greatest potential for optimization and the opportunity to align the system with the SAP standard.
There are several advantages in favor of SAP S/4HANA Embedded EWM: By using embedded EWM a company can simplify the IT infrastructure and reduce data replication. Material and batch master data, transactional data, etc. are provided directly via SAP S/4HANA ERP. A Core Interface (CIF) is no longer required. In terms of licensing, an embedded EWM can potentially save costs, as there is a distinction between Basic EWM and Advanced EWM.
However, a decentralized SAP EWM can handle a higher volume of transactions. If the standalone EWM system reaches the limits of system performance, it will not affect other process solutions.
In broad terms, SAP S/4HANA Embedded EWM can be considered more suitable for small- and medium-sized warehouses (e.g. with a strong interlocking of production and intralogistics), while SAP S/4HANA Decentral EWM may be the solution for large warehouses with high volumes. However, this cannot be generalized and requires a thorough case-by-case assessment.
Basic EWM includes core warehouse management processes such as inbound and outbound processes, internal warehouse processes, and the management of handling units, along with complete inventory transparency and control. Additionally, physical inventory, reporting, and resource management, etc. are also part of Basic EWM.
As soon as more complex functionalities or advanced services are part of your warehouse logistics, SAP S/4HANA Embedded EWM should be licensed as Advanced EWM. With this, you gain access to an extended range of features, including an integrated material flow system, wave picking, yard management, value-added services, and more.
Compared to SAP Stock Room Management, SAP EWM offers a significantly wider range of functions. At prismat, we consider SAP Stock Room Management more as a transitional solution for SAP WM customers. However for a more detailed case-by-case assessment, a closer look at a company’s requirements would be necessary.
